Announcing WaterfrontExpo 2011, Scotland

International Conference on Waterfront Regeneration and Investment, 2 - 3 November, Glasgow

WaterfrontExpo 2011 will provide an invaluable opportunity to learn how the waterfront regeneration aspirations of at least seven major cities have actually turned out in reality, and how waterfront regeneration is attracting new investment for further development.

This conference will enable you to:

  • Learn first hand how seven very different cities from around the globe have undertaken a major transformation of their waterfronts over the last decade.
  • Understand how this transformation is stimulating further investment in regeneration and development.
  • Gain specific insights into the experience of three major Scottish cities in using waterfront regeneration to create new investment opportunities.

In sharp contrast to many regeneration events, which deal with wishful thinking and masterplans, the focus of WaterfrontExpo 2011 will be hard on actual experience and progress made. WaterfrontExpo 2011 is officially supported by Clyde Waterfront, Dundee Waterfront, the City of Edinburgh Council, and Glasgow City Council.

The participating cities – Chicago, Marseille (and three other major international cities currently being confirmed), plus the major Scottish cities of Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, will each detail how the progress they have made in revitailsing their waterfronts measures up to their original aspirations.

Supporting these case studies will be a comprehensive programme comprising:

  • City workshops where existing developers and investors in the waterfronts of Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, will explain what attracted them to these invest.
  • Site visits to key developments on the Clyde and Edinburgh waterfronts.
  • A Multimedia presentation utilising performance, expert presentations and film to illustrate how Dundee is becoming a major cultural centre.
  • A concluding plenary session where the key lessons of successful waterfront regeneration and its role in stimulating further investment will be analysed and explored.
  • Presentation on preparations on how the 2014 Commonwealth Games wil stimulate Glasgow’s economy.
  • A Clyde river cruise.
  • Tour of BBC Scotland HQ, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
  • Official Civic Reception in Glasgow’s new Riverside (Transport) Museum designed by world famous architect Zaha Hadid.
