Environmental information

The Mermaid is committed to improving its environmental performance and reducing its environmental impact. This includes:
- Recycling materials such as paper, cardboard, toner cartridges, computer items, wood, metal, kitchen fats and oils.
- Using LED and low energy light bulbs.
- Using environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources whenever practically possible.
- Conserving resources through careful planning and efficient use
- Working with suppliers to ensure they are doing all they can to reduce the environmental impact of their businesses.
In August 2009 The Mermaid was awarded silver from the Green Tourism for London Association. In January 2010 the Corporation of London recognised its waste minimisation and recycling initiatives by awarding The Mermaid a ‘Premier Award’ and ‘The Chairman's Cup’ which saw The Mermaid succeed against hundreds of other businesses in the city for recognition of its strategies. In 2010 it initiated an application for BS8901 certified status.
